Communication in Classroom
For communication to the parents of both of my placement classes so far, my teschers have put out a weekly and sometimes, depending on how busy the teacher is a bi monthly newsletter. This is to let the parents know what is going on inside the classroom. Both of the newsletter's have information like what they will be learning about during the course of that week or two week period, any field trips or important events that are going on within the school or class, if the teacher needs any parent volunteers or help within the classroom or trip, like a chaperone, and then both my placement teachers have a designated spot for students who have made their AR goal for the quarter so that the parents can see what level their child is on. I really love the idea of a newsletter be ause it keeps everyone on the same page and nobody can feel like they are being left out. Another good way that Mrs. Cipriani's students and her show communication to each other is when the students raise their hands of they need something. They hold up one finger if they would like to get some water, two fingers if they have to go to the restroom, and three fingers up if they would like to go to the library. This way, the teacher can figure out if the students is wanting something or if they actually have a question about the assignment or project that are currently working on.

Assessment, Record Keeping, Reporting
For assessment, Mrs. Cipriani uses the state's 1-2-3 system; a 3 is that the student exceeded her expectation and knew what they were doing in any aspect of the test or the assessment at hand. A 2 would be considered average with some mistakes, but the student got the point and would only need a few minutes to go back over the subject matter and only needs help on 1 or 2 problems. A 1 would be that the student does not understand the material at all and needs to be re-taught it. That is how Mrs. Cipriani grades for most of the worksheets and not as important assessments. But when it comes to tests, she has a system, just like every other teacher, to take the number of questions there are on the test, and then take the number of right answers out of the number of questions, and there is the student's test grade.
For record keeping, my placement teacher has 4 folders for each child (a writing folder, a math folder, a social studies folder and a science folder) and for every assignment, the completed and grades work goes into whatever folder it is supposed to, and at the end of the year, Mrs. Cipriani has something kind of like a showcase for the parents for the students in her class to come in and see what all they did over the course of the school year. I really like this idea and will more than likely have one of these whenever I have my own classroom.

- when my teacher is out, somehow she always has a typed lesson plan of everything planned out and done to a T. I really don't see how she can do this because when we have a sub in the classroom, the sub and the students can't use computers, so how does she get that lesson plan to the substitute?
